Whew! I read this book in one sitting. With the hurt and memories fresh in his heart just after his precious wife, Jeannie, left this earth, Tom Eliff sits down to write the Unwanted Gift. Heartbreaking and hope-filling at the same time, this book speaks to me and my own battles that don't seem to go away.There are times when people use their own pain to learn and as they do, they bless others with the wisdom only found as they find God's lifeline in the storm. Honestly, reading about Paul's "thorn in the flesh" is just not as real to me as Tom and Jeannie's struggle with their own thorns.
I believe that those who fight cancer, illness, heartache, or a problem that just won't go away will find this book and find the encouragement to move forward just as I do. Thank you, Tom Eliff for writing this book. I don't know you, but I appreciate your writing this very personal book and opening up the lessons you and Jeannie learned. The Unwanted Gift is a gift to me. I'm not glad for what happened to you and Jeannie, but I am grateful that you've not let the experience go to waste and are using it to encourage and help others. Many "gifts" are often unwanted - it was great to read about the journey of two special people who sat in that unwanted seat. Instead of "why me?" - they allowed God to use their journey to bless others. It was filled with the encouragement that only one who has walked this path can give. I've read other books Tom has written, The Red Feather, is another favorite. Enjoy the read and blessing.
